“Can you help me clean it again, please?”

Aesop hoped the older man would not ask too much about his injuries. Every time it would happen in school, he had to either worry that his mother would be worried for him or have Désire come up with unique ways of making sure it wouldn’t happen again. All things considered, Aesop wished those were never an option; it would draw too much attention to him, as he was the only bullied kid in his class.

To have children disappear one after another would not be good, not knowing they all had some connection to him.

“Again with the cuts?” Désire didn’t mind him just coming into his home whenever he wanted. The staff didn’t seem to pay attention to him; if you could call the odd maid and the tall, scary man staff. Since there wasn’t anyone else around, that was his best guess.

The boy nodded. “Can you do it?”

“My, of course I can! How could I refuse my beautiful boy?”

Of course, Désire would drop everything, including his work, just to help the boy. He did like him that much, Aesop was aware of that. He was also aware of all the drawbacks this sort of relationship had, even if it did not directly impact him. But they never saw each other outside of the house, and it’s not like anyone would come to this place, away from most people. Coming here required someone to know of it.

“What excuse will you use this time, hm?”

Aesop couldn’t help but look away as Désire pressed the cloth onto his face, cleaning it. “A branch hit me while I was running in the yard. It’s not like she can be upset about that. Mom will just tell me to be more careful at the end of it.”

“If you say so.”

It was better than telling the truth. The last thing he needed was her worrying about his school life, which was already hard to begin with. With Désire to help him clean up every visible one and pass it off as him being clumsy, she can forgive him that much. All the non-visible ones can never come to her, no matter what.

“I can still help you with that little problem, you know~” Désire sang, even if he knew the answer to it.

“I can’t do that. People will become suspicious.”

The other signed, as if he gave up. He was not going to give up, despite Aesop’s refusals, but at least he won’t do anything without Aesop saying a thing first.

That was the one guarantee that nothing would change until Aesop says it’s enough. It might happen at some point if no one stops the bullying. Attempts from teachers did nothing, so Aesop was always left on his own to deal with the bullies. Désire’s offer would make his life easier, but at a cost.

The cost that, for now at least, he was going to avoid.
